First
Birthday Celebrations
The Big Celebration was on Saturday, 25th September, 2010
The
event was opened by the High Sheriff of Rutland, Mrs Sarah Forsyth, who
clearly much enjoyed her first visit to Barrowden. She thanked and
congratulated those who had set up the Shop and arranged this day.
Sheila Saunders responded and acknowledged the help and advice of Ian
Toye who was now retiring from his post with the Village Retail Shops
Association.
There was a range of activities, including a BBQ, face painting for the youngsters, displays and tastings by our suppliers.
Did
you see the leaflet? A bright and cheerful leaflet created by local
resident, and London designer, Scott Doran, was distributed around many
local villages, and at the Rutland Fun Day.
It
was great to see many from our own village as well as from elsewhere
join us on a sunny morning. The BBQ was a great attraction, with tasty
sausages, burgers and grills served by Peter Coleman, Malcolm Fry, and
Graham Ball.
A view of the coffee and chat area.
Coffees, chocolate or teas can be ordered from the counter, and perhaps
a piece of cake too. Then sit and chat, or perhaps buy a paper or
magazine from the rack to the left of the photo. The art works on the
walls are all by local residents and available for sale. Just the thing
for that special gift. The computers are there, and ready for action.
All we ask is a thoughtful donation for overall shop funds. Now you can
also print or copy a letter, laminate a document, or go on line. | There was a range of activities, including a BBQ, face painting for the youngsters, displays and tastings by our suppliers.

The
Village Hall was filled with many of our regular suppliers offering
some of their other products to entice us. They succeeded!
We had marked the first anniversary of trading on Friday August 13, when a Birthday
cake was cut by the oldest and youngest customers.
Some
of the attractive goodies on display as you entered the shop. Not
everything stays in the same place all the time, but it is all still
there somewhere. If you can't see it, please ask! What better than fresh
bread and newly-delivered milk to start the day. Soft drinks and
cordials, some chilled ready to drink, are
there as are the newspapers. Dairy produce is in
the chiller at the back of this photo. But come and see for yourself!
But be warned! Various items might been moved since the photo was taken.
We are constantly updating stock and display. Daily and Sunday papers are available from the counter area. |
